Remote Working Part 1 – Summary

Obviously not all of us can work remotely as lots of careers require us to consistently attend their office or travel to undertake their tasks in person. But for those of us are allowed to work remotely then I thought it would be useful to share my experiences and share some practical guidance by distributing it on the net with the sole objective of providing valuable timesavers for adapting to remote working or supervising remote workers.
I can tell you that there are many so called ’experts’ on the web who will try and get you to buy courses for vast sums of cash, believe me you don’t need to do this.
I am fortunate to be allowed to work in whatever location I choose and just about everyone who asks me what job I do wants to know how I manage to work remotely. Don’t get me wrong here I am still developing the art of remote working as all of the time I find persons on the Internet who show me new approaches and I am repeatedly discovering new technologies and approaches that make my life simpler and improve my productivity.
Throughout the past seven years I have significantly adapted my working methods to enable me to do the majority of my work remotely with a selection of internet tools and robust self discipline. One early morning whilst searching the net I found Quickbooks online and this got me thinking about what just might be possible. The encounter with online 'on demand' small business accounting software was inspiration for me and the beginning of my ‘remote working history.
I have got to mention up front that effectively working remotely is as much about the tools as it is about self discipline. Working remotely also means informing your colleagues, superiors and customers as to what they can expect and how they will stay in touch with you.
